1. What happens in the sessions?

Taking the Stage® consists of groups of 6 to 10 women who meet for four dynamic monthly The Humphrey Group Inc. Logosessions led
by a volunteer facilitator in your community.  Each session is structured with a 20 minute video segment,
rich group discussion, some practice exercises and networking opportunities.
Session topics are:

  1. Choosing to Take the Stage
  2. Creating a Leader's Script
  3. Unlocking the Power of Your Voice
  4. Achieving a Powerful Presence

2. What is the role of the participant?

Participants must commit to attending four sessions led by a volunteer facilitator. Each session will include an introduction to one of the four core topics and a 20 minute video followed by facilitated group discussions and exercises.

Participants must be open to sharing their experiences, challenges, and ideas with the other members of their group. They must also be open to change and to receiving both creative and critical comments. A participant may be asked to go beyond their comfort level in learning to project their leadership qualities. Participants will explore how they can apply what they learn to their own work, community and personal settings.

3. What is the role of the facilitator?

The facilitator’s role is to assist the group through the Taking the Stage® session and to help participants find areas to apply the training in their lives. The facilitator will lead 4 video-based learning sessions filled with rich, balanced group discussion.

Facilitators attend 2 days of Taking the Stage® Facilitator Training before leading their groups.

4. How do I become a participant?

Taking the Stage® participants are business-minded aboriginal, immigrant, youth or entrepreneurial women.  We had an overwhelmingly positive response for our first intake.  The application deadline for the Spring 2011 Intake of the program has passed.  We will still be accepting applications online, and may run groups in Fall 2011 in communities where there is enough interest.  Space is limited,  apply today!

5. How do I become a facilitator?

We have no plans to train any new Taking the Stage® facilitators in the near future.

6. What does it cost to participate?

Taking the Stage® is a powerful program developed by The Humphrey Group Inc. to help women achieve a confident leadership presence.  While the program is traditionally only available to women in large corporations, thanks to The Humphrey Group’s generous support Women’s Enterprise Centre is now pleased to be able to offer it to business-minded aboriginal, immigrant, youth or women entrepreneurs across BC at a fee of $150 per person.  We have a limited number of bursaries available to cover this program fee.

The program fee of $150 will be required within five business days of your acceptance letter date to reserve your place. There are a limited number of bursaries available. If you have been selected to receive a bursary, you will be notified by email in your acceptance letter.

7. Am I eligible for a bursary?

To be eligible for a bursary you must be female and an aboriginal, immigrant, youth (19-34 years old) or an entrepreneur in the first 3 years of business.  Bursaries will be awarded on an individual basis upon consideration of financial need and eligibility.  If eligible, you need to apply for the bursary when you fill out your Taking the Stage® application.

Please note: By accepting a bursary you are ineligible to participate in the Taking the Leap to Entrepreneurship Mentoring Program (One-to-One & Peer Mentoring Groups).

8. When will the groups start?

The application deadline for the Fall 2011 Intake of the program has passed.  We will still be accepting applications online, and may run groups in Soring 2012 in communities where there is enough interest.  Your application will be reviewed and if you meet the program’s criteria, you can expect to hear from Women’s Enterprise Centre when a group is ready to begin in your community.

9. Where will the groups be located?

Groups will run in the following communities if there is enough interest: Comox Valley, Kelowna, Prince George, Prince Rupert, Salmon Arm, Vancouver, Victoria and Whistler.
