Top Female Entrepreneurs...
Offer words of wisdom and insight into self-employment
Nothing could be more valuable to a woman considering self-employment than receiving advice from three of the most successful entrepreneurs in British Columbia. Sandra Wilson, founder of Robeez Footwear Ltd., Laura Hansen, owner of Image Group Inc. and Sherrin Western, founder of Shervin Communications Inc. offered up the secrets to their success in a panel discussion this month.

Success Tips for Women Entrepreneurs
Success Tip #5:
Finding the heart of your business
Women business owners differ from most of their male counterparts when it comes to the way they measure their success. Women in business often have a more personal view.
Over time in a business’s evolution, the initial services or products offered may have been joined by others not first considered. Has it changed the “heart of the business”?
Previous Tips:
Obtaining Financing from Women’s Enterprise Centre
Question 4: I know you lend to existing businesses, can I get a loan to start or buy a business?
In recent issues we’ve touched on the location of Women’s Enterprise Centre’s offices, agricultural business and non-traditional businesses for women. As long as your business is located somewhere in British Columbia, and you have a solid business plan, Women’s Enterprise Centre will be there for you. Our lending program is available to provide term loans to women to start, expand or purchase a business in BC. As a non-profit lender, our success is truly your success.

Women's Enterprise Centre Success Story
Women's Enterprise Mentor, Theresa McPhillamey, shares her passion with new entrepreneurs
When her position was cut due to restructuring, what seemed like an utter disaster at the time actually led to a lifestyle change that allowed her to focus on her priorities and return to her roots.
Adopting her father’s entrepreneurial spirit, McPhillamey saw her job loss as the perfect motivator to start a business. She combined that spirit with her career experience and life skills to build 24 Karat Salon & Spa in Summerland, BC.

.Awards Featuring Women Entrepreneurs |
Congratulations to Mrs. Palmer's Pantry!
Mrs. Palmer wins business of the year award by the BC Chamber of Commerce
Women's Enterprise Centre story teller, Brenda Palmer, has recently been awarded the Business of the Year Award by the BC Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Palmer was nominated by the Cranbrook Chamber which had presented her with a "Best in Business" award earlier this year.
"I was absolutely shocked to win the Cranbrook award because there was some pretty stiff competition and very good businesses," she said. "I was absolutely overwhelmed when I found out I had won the B.C. award, because every community in B.C. had nominated a business from their community. To be acknowledged by a whole group of successful business people was really overwhelming."
Palmer began her business 12 years ago when she had a two month old baby. The business was part-time until her son began grade one. "I wanted to have some flexibility of time because I was a single mom and I didn't want to have a job where I had to work all night and not see my children," she said.
