Financial Finesse Series
Part 6: Get Paid on Time
It is a rare woman who relishes the thought of asking for money. Why is that? Why is it that even when we put our heart and soul into delivering a quality product or service, we can still feel dread at the thought of handing over an invoice or calling up a customer to request payment due.

Become a One-to-One Mentor this Fall!
If you are a woman in business or with past business experience and you value giving back to your community, then mentoring a newly self-employed woman could be for you! Women's Enterprise Centre is recruiting women entrepreneurs with at least five years business experience to mentor a woman who has been in operation less than two years.
Applications will continue to be accepted until August 15th for Mentors and Mentees from all over BC to participate in a six month mentoring relationship starting this Fall. For eligibility requirements and to apply, please click here or contact Sara Couper, Mentoring Coordinator at 1-800-643-7014 ext:201.

Staff Matters Series
Part 3: Creating Good Employee Morale on a Shoe-String Budget
Creating good morale at work starts right from the moment your new employee walks through your doors. How they are greeted, treated and where they are seated, all play a part in how long you will keep them with you! The first few days of a new job are always the most confusing, no matter what position you are in. Training, learning and meeting new people will cause a new employee’s head to spin with information overload

June Business Tip
Cash Flow
Most of us have more experience with cash flow planning than we think. You have likely managed cash flow monthly from the time you landed your first full-time job. When do pay-cheques come in? When are rent, mortgage payments, credit card payments or utility bills due? Cash flow is about when money comes in, when it needs to go out, and most significantly, how you estimate and coordinate the timing so that you have cash on hand to cover your expenses.
Business cash flow is no different, although there may be more factors involved. Beyond the cash that flows in as a result of sales, there is also the cash that comes in the form of loans, investment or other money injections. And beyond the cash that flows out to pay for regular expenses, is also the cash that flows out to make loan payments or to purchase assets.

Tanya King , The Dog & Hydrant
Two years ago, Tanya King was in a comfortable job working for a photographer full-time. Although she loved her job, in the back of her mind existed the dream of owning her own store that catered to the needs of dogs. Every time she saw a business similar to the one she dreamed about, the urgency to make that dream a reality increased.
