May Business Tip
Know your options in advance - Start-up Cost Planning
Creating a list of start-up costs is a necessary but time-consuming process. At this point, you need to know how big an undertaking start-up will be for you.
Start-up costs include those related to:
- your location: rent/lease, renovations, signage, utility hook-up, outfitting, security
- manufacturing: raw materials, freight, customs, brokerage fees
- inventory
- communications: phones, fax machines, internet, pagers
- office equipment: desk(s), chair(s), shelving, file cabinets
- computers and software
- office supplies
- insurance
- licenses and permits
- legal/accounting
- marketing/advertising
- wages
Being thorough and planning your expenditures will help you plan for the "big picture" and will be another aid in the map of how you're going to get to your entrepreneurial destination.
