November Business Tip

Location, Location, Location!

Many people become so excited about starting their business that they fail to invest the time in finding the right location. Remember that your business image and its location are closely tied, so finding the right place to start your business is critical to its success.

Think of the location from your customer's point of view, especially if you are in retail or hospitality. Is your business going to rely on walk-by traffic or is it a destination store? You need to know your customers very well, know the community, check out the competition, check traffic and accessibility, check the building and check the cost to see if it works.

You’re on your way to building the best team you’ve ever experienced. Your latest hire brings the skills you needed, but more importantly she is a ‘good fit’ and has a personality that meshes well with yours and those of the rest of the team.

Is it really that easy?

New Pioneers Book Launch a Success!

Six regional launches for our latest publication, New Pioneers: Stories of 100 BC Women Entrepreneurs, were held in October during Small Business Month and Women’s History Month in Vancouver, Terrace, Kelowna, Surrey, Victoria and Cranbrook. More than 245 people attended the launches where Women's Enterprise Centre honoured the local women featured in the book.

Media attention has been outstanding since the New Pioneers book was published in October! Articles in BC community newspapers, online media, Canadian Wire services as well as orders for the books from all over BC, Canada and Europe continue to arrive. Many of the New Pioneers are experiencing the rewards of being included in this book. By including the New Pioneer logo and link on their corporate websites, they have also found a new marketing avenue.

Keeping Good Employees Onboard

Employee retention –  is a very real and serious issue for many small businesses in BC and this will continue even as the economy faces a downturn.

Send your employees to participate in this survey that will provide employers insight into WHY employees leave their jobs. The results of this survey, which will be published in our eNews early next year, will provide employers with valueable informatio that may assist in better employee retention programs.
