Where can you go when you start with virtually nothing? For Jinous Nouri, building a business has been a long (and international) road. Arriving in Canada after the revolution in Iran, the Nouri family faced the dilemma of many new Canadian professionals: an unfamiliar language and culture, skills that weren’t directly transferable and a need to bring in income. When Jinous could not find employment as a chemist in Vancouver, she decided to make her own way using some of her greatest assets: determination, a passion for creating healthy skincare products and a supportive family with a strong work ethic.
Jinous had been experimenting for a number of years with a natural hair removal product that was free of chemicals and wax. Now in Canada she perfected it and called it MOOM. In 1991, she and her family started making MOOM in their kitchen.
Today, “Stick with Us Products” sells a line of 19 natural hair removal and skincare products through North American health and beauty supply stores and on-line retailers and variety of TV shopping channels around the world. Jinous’s daughters, Yekta Sharifi and Mahta Nourinejad, have joined the firm as Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Creative Director, respectively, to manage its growth and a staff of 20. Jinous believes that the road she took in building her business is one worth travelling: “Don’t give up if you know what you can offer is truly worth the effort!”
