Research and years of experience tell us that business owners benefit from support. No surprises there. But just what kind of support is needed?
At Women’s Enterprise Centre, we have just the right support -depending on your needs. We have complimentary Business Advising services and 3 types of Mentoring Programs.
As the new Mentor Program Coordinator I’ve had the unique opportunity to speak with many women about their businesses, the challenges they face and the goals they’re trying to achieve. What I’ve learned is that the term “Mentor” means different things to different people.
A Mentor is a volunteer with business experience who offers support, guidance and knowledge to Mentees who are in their first three years of business. She shares her own experiences – what’s worked for her and what hasn’t – and helps her mentee achieve her goals to set her on the road to self-sufficiency.
Our program is designed for women in their first three years of business and matches your specific business needs with someone who has experience and skills related to your challenge. This may be in a traditional one-to-one mentor match, or there may be a Peer Mentoring group in your community. Mentoring requires both Mentor and Mentee to work together for a 6-month period. The cost for our Mentoring Program is $150 for a 6-month program.
You may need a Mentor if…
You feel isolated as a business owner, and would like to share your triumphs and tribulations
You’d like ideas and opinions from people with an outside perspective
You’d like to build your networks in the business community
You want to increase your business knowledge and build confidence
A Business Advisor (BA) is a WEC employee with specific business training and experience with many types of businesses in all stages. A BA provides advice and resources on marketing, business planning, strategic planning, accessing capital, managing cash flow, international trade and much more. The timeframe in working with a BA could be anywhere from a 30-minute phone call to a series of one-hour appointments to achieve a specific goal.
You may need a BA if…
You have a specific business question
You’re struggling with a certain aspect of your business
You need help making a plan – business, growth, financial or marketing
You just need someone who can point you in the right direction for information
My questions to you are:
What do you need to help you succeed in business?
