Time is Now! For Sustainable Development

February 21, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

“There’s No Plan B, because There’s No Planet B”
– António Guterres UN Secretary-General

On September 25th 2015, United Nations countries adopted 17 goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda titled “Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”

Sustainable development is everyone’s business, if you live on planet earth these 17 goals matter for you and your children.

In the Okanagan, we’ve seen the impact of climate change this summer as we watched our lake flood and forests burn. We see poverty in our streets, gender inequalities in business, and overconsumption of our wants versus needs. But we also see a community working together to stock food banks, improve the quality of education and support economic growth.

Time is Now! For Sustainable Development  is a Mayoral  forum on Cities & The SDGs.    More than half of the Sustainable Development Goals’ 169 targets depend on the work of local governments.  Come ask the hard questions!

The Global Marketplace, which takes place in the foyer prior to and after the forum, will highlight the good that IS being done by groups and individuals within our community.    Purchase fair-trade goods and learn more about  the causes you care most about.
