How To Achieve Your Goals

We all have them. Call them goals, dreams, aspirations – but you just can’t seem to achieve them.  Why does it seem so hard? Especially with being so plugged into social media, you hear all these success stories and incredible achievements.  You feel like you’re the only one not doing it. Not true.

It’s not about being lucky or special or whatever. It’s about creating a logical plan and then doing it!

There are four simple reasons why people fail when it comes to achieving their goals:

  1. They set unrealistic (aka unachievable) goals.
  2. Plan? What plan?
  3. They don’t take any sort of logical action.
  4. They want to eat the whole elephant all at once.

As with four simple reasons you fail, there are four basic steps to achieve your goals:

  • Set achievable goals.

(Attempting to save the whales, conquer the world and become a rock star in a day is a bit foolish, no?)  Choose 1 to 3 things that you truly want and make sure you understand why you want these things.

  • Strategize and plan.

Create a real, actionable plan that you can follow every day until you actually achieve your goals. Three small actionable tasks each day can take you a long way. Breaking down your goals will help you avoid the feeling of being overwhelmed. Remember to set a deadline because a goal without a deadline is a day dream.

  • Take action.

Do it! This is a ‘no-brainer’!

  • Take your pulse regularly.

Obsessing over long-term results just creates stress. Just like your regular check-ups, keeping your finger on the ‘pulse’ let’s you know how ‘healthy’ your progress is. Whenever we see positive results, we have a renewed desire to not only maintain that healthy state but to improve so that we see more positive results. Talk about motivation!
