Caroline Grover, Former CEO, Kelowna Chamber of Commerce
Caroline Grover was the CEO of the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce. As the voice of business in the community, the Chamber supports its members through network development, cost-effective marketing tools, referrals and introductions. The chamber represents local businesses to different levels of Government.
Before joining the chamber in 2011, Grover found her niche as an entrepreneur and also moved through various management positions in non-profit organizations. Her experience in several economic development positions has provided her insights into what businesses need to succeed.
Her advice to new entrepreneurs is to be open and find valuable peer mentors. “It is okay to feel unsure and vulnerable, you are not alone and don’t need to have all the answers.”
Talking about her mentor’s influence in her present work, she says, “My mentor has given me the tools to reflect quickly on what is motivating me, holding me back or influencing my current decision process. WOW! I come away with such clear decision making in line with my instincts.”
Grover now wants to pay it forward and is a mentor and a peer mentor facilitator for Women’s Enterprise Centre in the Shuswap region. “I am humbled by the number of business owners who reconnected with me to say ‘thank you.’ If doing what I love, sharing what I know can help make an entrepreneur’s journey a bit easier, then yes please, I want to help.”
