Patricia Davis, Tap Bookkeeping Ltd., Campbell River

Category:

Patricia started her business, Tap Bookkeeping, in June of 2010 after working as an accounting clerk and bookkeeper for private enterprises. Patricia’s father had always been an entrepreneur, and therefore she believes the entrepreneurial spirit was always in her system. She chose to start up her own business when she saw the need for it through a growing clientele, and once she realized entrepreneurship was the right fit for her, she opened up Tap Bookkeeping.

Mentor Q&A

Q. What do you feel is your greatest strength in your business?

A. My organization skills. The need for processes and procedures fit in well with my organization skills. Before I adopted the PURE Bookkeeping systems, I was afraid customer deadlines would be missed. Once the systems were in place to ensure that we were consistently meeting our deadlines, it gave us the capacity to grow further!!

Q. What’s the biggest lesson you have learned while being in business for yourself?

A. To be flexible and say yes to the opportunities that come our way!

Q. Do you have any advice for other women who are following in your path?

A. One step at a time, keep moving forward, have faith in yourself, be adaptable and go for it! Get connected with a networking group, an industry association and/or a business coach/ mentor as soon as possible.  The lessons to be learnt are all around us if we are willing to put ourselves out there!

Q. Can you think of an example of when you had a mentor who provided guidance in your life and the impact or influence they had on your life or business?

A. Once I started connecting with other business owners in the same industry, our growth increased dramatically as I had others to brain storm with and learn from each other’s successes and failures. They have been a huge influence on my being able to continue to grow professionally and personally!

Q. Why do you want to volunteer your time as a mentor to help less experienced women business owners?

A. In the early years I attended a peer group with WEC and found it very beneficial. Over time I realized the importance of having like minded individuals to chat with about business. It is now my turn to give back some of what I have learnt over the past 10 years to hopefully benefit another new business owner!!
