Samantha Simonton, AMY, Vancouver
Samantha Simonton is the founder of AMY (Amazing Memorable Years). She was inspired to launch AMY because of the #NOownership trends. AMY rents fresh, fashionable furniture and makes it fun and easy to make beautiful spaces affordable and sustainable. According to the company founder, “We believe that your best years are NOW, not someday.”
Q.What has your WEC loan enabled you to do in your business?
A. Women’s Enterprise Centre loan gave us the opportunity to buy inventory.
Q. What inspired you to take the leap and start your own business?
A. I took the leap to start this business for the next generation. The furniture industry wants to sell goods and the buyers don’t want to own long term furniture, there is misalignment and that is why AMY was created.
I had the idea for AMY when I asked myself a simple question: “Why do we have to wait years to save up enough to get furniture that makes us excited and inspired in our home? Why can’t we have it now?”
Q. What’s the biggest lesson you learned when starting your business?
A. The biggest lesson that I learned in starting my business is that it takes longer than you want and no one will work as hard as you will.
Q. What is your greatest strength as an entrepreneur?
A. My greatest strength is that I am a generalist, good at many things, and don’t stop at no.
Q. What are your goals for the business?
A. My goal is to make this business Canada wide, making fresh fashionable furniture available to all.
